Seeing Miracles: Dragonfly’s Message

Subtle Miracles are available to us all, forging pathways to liberating energy and soulful connections.

I constantly marvel at the ingenuity of Spirit and the Divine Source as I see miracles in nature, the clouds above and the stories woven into my soul and others.

These subtle stories of connection stream through me from a higher consciousness, creating an unshakeable knowing. I am supported. You are supported. WE are supported.
This true tale is a twist on the transcendental story of the water bug who dies and then emerges as a beautiful dragonfly.
A parable often used to help children understand the concept of death as a transformation from the physical to spiritual, it is a story that first came to our family through the kindness of another grieving mother I know.
Merely weeks after my son’s death, she arrived at my door one stormy, winter evening. The wind was howling, echoing the voice of my wounded heart as the frigid rain streamed down.
Obscuring all vision.
Strangely reminiscent of my overwhelmed soul which was flooded in salty drops of sorrow.
Peering into the rain, there she was - solid, enduring - a lifeline in this torrent of grief. Not a word was uttered as she stood dripping in my entry way and then pulled me into the most poignant embrace. Two mothers held together by the all encompassing wings of two angels. Later, the medicine of dragonfly connected us as well. Our grief streamed together seamlessly that night beating to the heart of nature’s own tempestuous wisdom.
Later, I likened her visit as that of my very own “Nanny McPhee” of grief.
Like her namesake, she appeared just when needed most.
From that time forward, dragonfly took on special meaning for our family. He has become one of the enduring signs Noah sends to reassure our grieving souls that he is safe, connected and soaring free. We have many stories of dragonfly visiting us in very meaningful ways, I believe he is a symbol from the Divine for all who grieve the loss of a loved one.
So, this story is for me, and you and all who miss the deep physical connection to a loved one.
It’s also the story of another way. One where we forge connections to our loved ones in unique passages through opening our hearts to Spirit and the Divine Source.

In the summer of 2015, I brokenly prepared for another seven. It was August 6, the next day marked eight months since Noah died of cancer. As I sat brooding and pondering this ineffible fact, I felt the pull of nature urging me to go outside.
I opened the door and walking to a nearby planter, stood barefoot on mother earth. Breathing in the sweet perfume of summer, I sank into the grass, allowing my senses to become aware.
Stillness greeted me.
And there he was.
Dragonfly stared into the very depths of my soul. Flying up and circling around, he settled back onto a dead lily. At first, I waited, hoping he would choose a fresh bloom.
“A fresh vibrant flower will create a better image,” I thought to myself as I pulled out my phone. Poised to capture the beauty of the moment.
I waited.
Anticipating, expecting and wanting something other than that which was right in front of me.
Dragonfly stubbornly refused.
Succumbing to his will, I snapped images as he stared at me without fear.
Allowing the moment to happen. Willing me to detach from the outcome I desired.
“Just like you must do with Noah’s death,” a part of me rumbled deep inside.
We spent some time together, dragonfly and I, before I moved back into the house to view the photos. Looking at the first image, I gasped at the profound knowingness that shivered through me.
I understood dragonfly's message.
"This spent bloom, its time has passed but the essence of its spirit is still present.  The memory of its beauty will not be forgotten - much like your son.  His day has passed but his unique beauty will always be remembered for no two blooms of nature are ever alike."
Tears welled deep in my soul. The truth of this statement flooded through like a profound wave of love and sorrow mixed into the eternal flow of life. Instead of resisting the flow, I surrendered.
The second photo called.

The shadow of the living bloom was shown in relief upon the brick planter, inspiring fresh awe inside my very being. It was so stark and beautiful; the fine details of this perfect flower were hidden but there was no doubt that the bloom was there. The dark shadow looked solid yet transient in its lack of detail.
Dragonfly whispered, “It is our knowing that gives it substance.”
Our senses know and believe. Yet, if we try and touch the shadow, there is no physical substance. We take it on faith that the flower is there, even though there is no physical presence to the shadow itself. Although the flower on which the dragonfly perches is spent, the shadow of a flower in full bloom reminds us of the completeness it once achieved.
“Somewhere up high, Noah is healed and complete once more and although you cannot physically see him, Noah is still very much present in spirit.”  Dragonfly’s lilting song hummed in my heart.
The message filled me with awe and the sweetest, most poignant feeling of connection you could ever imagine.
Each time I encounter dragonfly, I feel a sense of lightness and connectedness. The many jewel tones he wears are a source of admiration. I often wonder if they tell a story as well?  Red, gold, blue, black, purple – the possibilities are truly astounding. But maybe that is the point? Perhaps there are limitless possibilities available to us all when we embrace dragonfly’s message of spiritual connection.

“Dragonfly’s Message”
I imagine
Dragonfly visits to remind us
Death is simply a transformation
An ending only of physical presence
Someday, we too will fly
Free from physical constraints…
At one with the Universe
Free, joyous and always connected

This is a powerful message Dawn. Thank you for sharing. What I love about the second photo is the live bloom is the shadow and death is the light…in our world we see it in the opposite . In life there is shadow and in death there is light. We find light where we least expect it! So profound ! Love your wisdom.
